This is not a blog, it is a technical change log for the Code Style site with a searchable archive from June 2000 to March 2011.
This log is closed with effect from March 2011.
Reviewed and archived many older articles and set up shadow Archive.shtml index pages for main sections. Created an alternative top bar include file for archived items, header-TopBarArchive.shtml with the tag line “Archive content from 2000 to 2010” and form-ArchiveArticle.shtml include without article rating or newsletter sign-up. Updated site map, section content listings and many other menu lists to remove archived items.

Added a premium content status and preference check to the standard FAQ help request. Added logic to Soupermail help request configuration to handle premium content preferences, set email notification subject lines accordingly and show relevant confirmation page content. Corrected server side include links to email newsletters and news feeds on help request confirmation page.

Completed removal of BuySellAds and AddThis share button code from various templates and Java classes including AbstractSample FontStack and CodeStyleTemplate. Additional HTTP requests for Javascript include code was slowing pages without significant benefits.

Amended MailingListTemplate class to generate Soupermail formatted SQL statements to automate email newsletter subscription. Generated a new email template to test before adding file output.

Amended various templates and Java classes to remove BuySellAds banner code from left hand column and sales links to prepare for end of service and complete removal. Re-compiled AbstractSample, FontStack and CodeStyleTemplate and re-deployed to live site.

Completed the “all applet milestone” update to the font survey results, which marked the end of the migration from manual survey forms to results based purely on font survey applet data. The font survey applet reads font information directly from your computer for greater coverage and accuracy. The font survey applet was first introduced to the Windows font survey and Mac font survey in 2007, and the Linux font survey from February 2008. Font survey results are based on a rolling 3 year sample of survey submissions, so now all Windows font survey results, Mac font survey results and Linux font survey results are based purely on the more accurate applet font data.
Added new Kindle ebooks and iPad ebooks catalogue pages to the One Percent Better Web site. Set a new iBooks price for EPUB editions.

Changed standard sidebar menu from div-based rounded corners to border-radius version through all affected templates, including CodeStyleTemplate class.
Changed all font survey SQL script references and XSL selectors from “Unix” to “Linux”.

Added a “Recent life members” server side include to FAQ stub articles through the FaqMenuGenerator class and custom HTTP 401 error page. Also refactored existing methods and SQL query to generate server side includes for recent FAQs by topic.
Optimised links in the font sampler area by dynamically excluding the current page from standard server side includes for menus and lists. Reduced the overall link options and enhanced link list sequences. Also enhanced sequence of Java FAQ links in the Java & servlets section menu.
