Asking the right question
The Code Style Web site receives many help requests every week. Answers to the most common and useful questions can be found on the relevant FAQ pages in this section. Help requests on questions that are already answered may not even be acknowledged, so please check these pages thoroughly before writing.
- Only ask one question.
- Questions that are similar to those already answered will also be ignored, so think carefully about how you phrase your question. If your query is for clarification of an existing answer, please state which question you are writing about.
- Questions that are difficult to understand because they are ambiguous, badly phrased, or omit important information will also be ignored. On the other hand, questions that are excessively long and detailed are also difficult to answer. Try carefully to summarise your question and include only essential information.
- Any request marked urgent will be ignored.
- All school project or coursework questions will be ignored.
- Any questions that are not relevant to the content of this site will be ignored.
If your question is about HTML or CSS that "works" in one browser but not in another, make sure you validate your markup and check your CSS before submitting your help request and include a URL for the page. See CSS syntax checkers and Markup validators for free online tools.
Finally, these FAQ pages are for general interest and only questions that contribute to the broader understanding of the issues will be answered. Requests for assistance in debugging code or solving specific development requirements will not be answered unless they demonstrate general cases that may be helpful to others.
